Many British military units wear coloured cloth backings behind their cap and beret badges. These are in colours based on regimental traditions, some use tartan badge backings, sometimes ribbon and sometimes hessian or Melton cloth. Melton cloth looks like felt, but is a higher quality woven fabric. Collectors often like to use these fabrics to display their cap badges.
We are not hatters, milliners, tailors or military outfitters, but sell collectable used hats, caps, helmets and berets. Unless customers specify sizes, we assume that hat size is not important to them and they are collectors who would not necessarily want to wear items in their collection. Our hats are in good condition, but are generally not new. Many are one-off items and we cannot guarantee to have specific sizes.
One of the first things that a British soldier does on being issued with a hat is to remove the size label. A beret can either shrink or stretch depending on how the original owner washed it, so even if it still has a size label it is very difficult for us to tell the true size of the hat.
We prefer that you do not specify hat size when ordering. Most hats are stocked as single quantities and it is very time-consuming for us to check hats for size.
If you need hats of specific sizes, please use metric sizes when ordering - this is because traditional British hat measurements look similar to US hat sizes, but are actually different sizes. Modern British hats use metric sizes - this is the circumference of the head in centimetres and can be measured using a cloth tape measure.
Orders for hats of specific sizes will be put to the bottom of the order-pile for us to deal with when we have more time.

Police and Prisons miscellaneous items for sale
Arm-bands, brassards and cuff-titles for sale. These are often used by uniformed organisations to indicate a temporary duty or responsibility. They are sometimes issued and worn instead of full military uniform to confer a legal status as combatants or non-combatants (such as the Red Cross Armband for medical personnel).
Arm-bands are a cloth band that goes around the upper arm, as opposed to a brassard, which fastens to the shoulder strap (or a button on the shoulder) and then wraps around the upper arm. In effect a brassard is longer than an arm-band.
The Royal Navy sometimes uses cuff titles as a wrist-band for duties such as 'Sentry' or 'Naval Provost'.
A black armband is traditionally used around the time of a funeral to indicate mourning.
