Yeomanry regiments were formed as army reserve cavalry in the 1790s and now exist as British Army Reserve armoured and reconnaissance units.  The Imperial Yeomanry was formed in 1899 as cavalry to serve in South African during the Boer War.  The Imperial Yeomanry was disbanded in 1908 but continued as part of the Territorial Army and Army Reserve.
