Most of our rank insignia is British or from the British Empire or Commonwealth. Some rank badges can be for specific regiments, perhaps with coloured badge backings.
Historically, Officers' rank badges were worn on the epaulettes (shoulder straps) or cuffs, whereas NCO rank chevrons were usually worn as rank stripes on the upper arm. Warrant Officer (Sergeant Major) rank badges are usually worn on the forearm or cuff. Having said that, modern British combat uniforms often have rank markings which slide-on to a strap in the middle of the chest.
Depending on the type of uniform, some of the badges are removeable rank slides / sliders which are designed to slip-on to strap, whereas others are made to be sewn onto a uniform or fastened with pins or Velcro.
Subcategories
These are mainly Royal Navy, including Flag Officers, other Commissioned Officers, Warrant Officers and Chief Petty Officers. Shoulder Boards, slip-on epaulette slides and sewn-on rank insignia.
This section includes rank badges worn on the arm and wrist, plus slip-on rank slides. We have rank badges for various patterns of uniform including Mess Dress, No.1 Dress and combat uniform. Most of our stock is British.
We are not tailors or military outfitters, but buy and sell original insignia for collectors. Sometimes we might have more than one of an item, but they do not exactly match - this could be because Army supply-contracts have been placed with different manufacturers over the years, or because of how the original wearer polished or washed the insignia. We are not manufacturers, but deal in original items for collectors and in the nature of authenticity, variations do exist.
We usually sell these as single items (as opposed to pairs) because:
Rank badges and patches which are worn on uniforms by Police and prison staff outside the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Bath stars, pips, crowns, and slip-on epaulette rank slides.
We have officer rank badges for various patterns of uniform including Mess Dress, No.1 Dress and combat uniform. Most of our stock is British.
We are not tailors or military outfitters, but sell insignia for collectors. Our rank badges are in good condition, but are generally not new. Whilst we may have some in large quantities, many are held as single items. We have bought our stock from a variety of sources over many years. In the nature of dealing in original items, insignia can vary due to age or manufacturing variations. Although we may have more than one example of an item in stock, we might be not to supply an exact matching pair.
We usually sell these as single items (as opposed to pairs) because:
These rank badges are self-adhesive zap stickers printed on green vinyl and used on Nuclear, Biological & Chemical (NBC) Defence Suits (sometimes called Noddy Suits) which are designed for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) defence.
CBRN rank badges are very rare because they are classed as 'mobilization stocks' and therefore only issued in time of conflict with a CBRN threat. They are not issued for peacetime training. In practice, they were only issued for the two Gulf Wars.
Older Royal Observer Corps non-commissioned rank badges were on an RAF blue-grey back-cloth. From about 1972 onwards, a darker blue badge backing was used.
We have a selection of Police rank markings available to buy. Nearly all items are sold as single items, including rank badges. We are not tailors or outfitters. We sell items as collectibles, and collectors tend to want only one of a kind, not duplicates. The other factor is that we might only have one example, particularly of older rarer items.
Sometimes we might have more than one of an item, but they do not exactly match - this could be because individual Forces placed supply-contracts with different manufacturers over the years, or because of how the original wearer polished or washed the insignia. We are not manufacturers, but deal in original items for collectors and in the nature of authenticity, variations do exist.
If any items are sold as pairs, they will be clearly marked "(Pair)". Where there is potential for confusion, some items are also marked as '(Single)'.
Sometimes we list items as "Pair Available", this means that we have a matching set in stock, but the price will be based on single items. In other words you need to order 2 if you want a pair.
If in doubt, assume that the price is based on single quantities.
